Harumi Urata-Thompson, Founder
Harumi Urata-Thompson is founder and CEO of HUT Consulting.
She specializes in leading and advising organizations on taking innovative paths to achieve strategic, operational and marketing success in their businesses. Currently, she is consulting to and serving on the board of directors of several companies.
Prior to starting HUT Consulting, Harumi was the Chief Operating Officer for CFA Society New York, previously New York Society of Security Analysts, a nonprofit affiliate of the CFA Institute with a membership of over 10,000 financial professionals. As COO, she was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s operations. She substantially improved its financial and operating performance by delivering better value to members, instituting significantly better operating processes, developing corporate partnerships, and establishing a new business model for attracting revenues from sponsors.
Before CFA Society New York, Harumi spent 14 years at Thomson Reuters where she held successively senior positions, always with an eye toward innovation and operating efficiencies. She was a Director at the corporate level overseeing innovation and managing a portfolio of mobile products across divisions. Harumi was Chief of Staff to the CEO of the Healthcare and Science business, where she oversaw all management activities of five business units, including acquisitions, business and product management, and planning for an annual $900M budget and 4,300 employees. Harumi was also a Product Manager over the entire company’s fixed income business and successfully launched the most significant product in this division’s history.
Harumi began her career in investment banking with Morgan Stanley and Citigroup, working in fixed income derivatives and mergers & acquisitions. She has an MBA from INSEAD in France and a BA, magna cum laude, in business from Sophia University in Japan. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Project Management Professional certified, an Advanced Communicator and Leader of Toastmasters, and bilingual in English and Japanese.

HJ Kim, Marketing Strategy and Customer Intelligence
HJ is a leading edge digital marketing specialist with extensive experience in branding & advertising, content marketing, digital marketing, and account planning for Fortune 500 brands.
Her experience includes working with Big Data and Customer Intelligence as a Senior Client Partner at Quantifind, a SaaS startup funded by Andreessen Horowitz, with global brands like Heineken, Dos Equis, Moet Hennessy, Ciroc Vodka, Pizza Hut, Mattel Toys, Pfizer ChapStick, Cadillac, and Panera Bread.
Prior to this, HJ was the Director of Social Intelligence and Analytics for Time Inc. a Time Warner company, where she led interactive strategy and digital marketing for its dedicated content marketing division. She enjoyed the privilege of employing cutting edge social & digital insights techniques to develop branded content and affinity marketing programs for JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, US Trust, Allstate, Charles Schwab, Ford, Land Rover, Comcast Xfinity, and AT&T Mobility.
HJ is an unusual hybrid of below-the-line digital CRM & direct marketing plus classic training in above-the-line account planning in branding & advertising. She was a Senior Strategic Planner for Havas (Euro RSCG), a Strategic Planner for OgilvyOne (Ogilvy & Mather), and Associate Director of Research for Fly Communications where she was also Senior Account Manager on Pernod Ricard’s brown spirits portfolio of brands and worked on banner advertising in the early days of Amazon’s Kindle.
Earlier in her career, she was an Associate Equity Analyst at an II-Ranked team at UBS Investment Bank, and worked as an Analyst for UBS, JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs. HJ has a PhD., abd, in Modern Japanese History from Cornell University and a BA in English Literature from Williams College.
Joel Telpner, Legal Advisor
Joel Telpner is the founder and CEO of Telpner Advisors, a consultancy specializing in the blockchain and fintech space.
He is a New York-based senior partner and Chair of Sullivan & Worcester’s Fintech and Blockchain Practice, where he actively works with a large number of clients in structuring digital asset distributions and enterprise blockchain applications.
Joel brings to the table 30 +years of combined legal and business experience that has required seeing around corners, identifying strategic opportunities and transforming complex legal hurdles into winning opportunities. Notable accomplishments include: becoming a leading force in the world of blockchain and fintech; starting from scratch and building a legal department for one of the world’s largest foreign investment banks; launching a venture capital firm; and restructuring the sovereign debt of Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.
Joel has special expertise in cutting-edge blockchain, cryptocurrency and fintech transactions, with guiding early-stage companies from launch to monetization, capital raising transactions in public and private U.S. and foreign markets, and in complex, structured finance and derivatives transactions. He also has expertise in private, venture and alternative investment funds.
He is also a leader in policy initiatives on global regulatory issues for blockchain on behalf of the Global Blockchain Business Council, the Blockchain Research Institute, the Chamber of Digital Commerce, the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance and Wharton Reg@Tech. Joel presented on “ICOs – Best Practices” at Blockchain Central at the 2018 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He is a Cofounder of the Stablecoin.Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes best practices for the stablecoin segment of the cryptocurrency market.
Joe has his M.B.A., The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, his, J.D., with distinction, The University of Iowa College of Law, and B.B.A., The University of Iowa, Business Administration, Major in Economics and Finance. He sits on the Editorial Board, Iowa Law Review; Executive Editor, ASILS International Law Journal.
